Teaching children to fish, can be quite an endeavor. You will definitely have to have some patience. Don’t forget that they are just kids. Try to remember the first time you went fishing. That should bring you back down to earth. Nobody starts out being the best angler of all time. Give the little ones a break. Taking the time and patience to teach them the right ways, will pay off later. Think about it, you end up with a new fishing buddy. You can’t have too many of those.
One good thing is, children want to learn. They want to go with you, when you go fishing. A good rule of thumb, is to buy them their own fishing stuff. That way they feel important, and will try a little harder to listen to you. If you are getting all upset about them beating up your rod and reel, it won’t help the situation. One of the best ways for kids to learn, is by watching you. However, do not do everything for them. They need to learn how to put the rig on, bait the hook, and throw it out. Hook sinker and line, they have to do it themselves.
